Drift Boater's Reference for the Upper Delaware River

A short guide with suggestions to help your day go smoother and  some emergency phone numbers you can keep handy just in case it doesn't.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Boat ramps: use only for launching, not prepping & rigging.

2. Waders have the right of way when they're in the water.
a.) Go behind them whenever possible even if it means walking.
b.) If unsure what side to pass, ask.

3. Other vessels:
a. Overtaking, the other vessel has the right of way. Give as wide a berth as possible.
b. You should never cut off or jump in front of another vessel and fish.
c. Anchored vessels should be treated like waders, they have the right of way.

4. Be Uncommon, Use Common Sense
a. Do not block narrow channels with your vessel
b. When out wading a narrow channel expect to let other vessels through.
c. Do not crowd other vessels. Maintain at least a 100' distance
d. do not try to navigate in unfamiliar water in the dark. This places you & others in harms way & creates a burden on others should a problem arise.
e. Avoid altercations & arguments. No one wins & you ruin your day

5. Report illegal activity including unlicensed guides to the National Park Service, PA Fish & Boat Commission, and the NY DEC.
Carry a First Aid kit, flashlight, PFD's, spare boat plugs and all safety equipment as required by regulations.
